Below are the goals for my Foundations of College Writing Course.
For each goal, I've selected work that demonstrates how I addressed that goal during the course,
and explained how, citing specific examples from my work.
Goal
My Work
My explanation
Goal A - Students will be able to compose
for particular audiences and purposes
Each genre is directed to a specific group or person
We will be able to write towards or at a certain group of people for
a specific reason.
Goal B - Students will be able to compose using
language and conventions appropriate to genre
Q&A genre. I used words such as me and i to show
that i am acting like the person who is being interviewed.
Will be able to write so that the type of writing is portrayed in a
certain way to make it seem realistic.
Goal C - Students will be able to read, select, and use
evidence critically to formulate and support arguments
FAQ-I Sheets. We had to research information and
filter it into what we want to use and what we don't want
to use for our projects.
Will be able to pull facts from research done about a certain topic
and make an argument using that data you've collected.
Goal D - Students will be able to interpret and compose in
a variety of media and print/non-print genres
For this goalI believe my website shows this goal the best. When looking through the pages of my site you'll notice that it combines writing and pictures to accomplish my goal of teaching about the event, and the mood upsetting mood by using music to effect the emotions.
Will be able to collect and distribute data by putting it into
different types of writing.
Goal E - Students will be able to describe and apply
appropriate writing processes, both individually
and in collaborative contexts
By doing peer reviews with classmates I was able to achieve this goal by using their feedback to better my work. In my newspaper i did not have any pictures. While during peer review, my classmates advised me to add in pictures for a more visual element, and it made it look a lot better.
Will be able to break down writing genres by taking it step by
step while being able to explain how they accomplished their
goal.
